Esks are call waiting

The Edmonton Eskimos are expecting a very important phone call from Shannon Garrett today.

The veteran defensive back is considering a contract offer from the club, but couldn't make up his mind yesterday.

"I want to sleep on it," said Garrett late yesterday from Mississippi, "and then I will let them know."

Adding to the equation is the fact Garrett is being pursued by other CFL teams after being a free agent for just one day.

"I have had a couple of teams calling," revealed the 34-year-old import, who has played the last six seasons for the Eskimos.

Before reaching free agency on Wednesday morning, Garrett had expressed his desire to stay in Edmonton and retire at the end of the 2006 season.

EXTRA POINT: Sandy Annunziata's phone is also ringing. The only other member of the 2005 Grey Cup championship team on the free-agent market, Annunziata has sparked some interest.

"The wheels are turning," said the offensive lineman.

"My agent (Gil Scott) said he's working with three teams right now." With Hamilton signing centre George Hudson to a five-year deal and Toronto inking Jude St. John, there are just four Canadian linemen - Bobby Singh, Pascal Cheron, Ryan Donnelly and Annunziata - left on the market.
