Run for tickets

Some people will do almost anything for football tickets.

The CFL West final isn't exactly a hot ticket in Vancouver this weekend, but that's not the case for two local fanatics.

Bill Cochrane and Alex Scherer ran from Commonwealth Stadium to West Edmonton Mall yesterday morning in green Speedos and yellow capes to win ducats to tomorrow's tilt at B.C. Place thanks to a wild radio station contest.

It was a 14.4K run that started at 7 a.m. into a 60 kmh wind.

"Are they Canadian?" joked Edmonton Eskimo head coach Danny Maciocia.

"Can we put them on our (team's) negotiation list?"

After plenty of strange looks and an encounter with a belligerent motorist, Cochrane and Scherer arrived at K-Rock's WEM studio two hours later.

"Some old ladies were pretty shocked and one old guy was hanging out of his window giving us the finger," said Scherer. "That was a pleasant little treat.

"And I think we almost caused three or four accidents.

"But how can you pass up the chance to go to Vancouver (all expenses paid) ... and see the Eskimos demolish the competition?"

Maciocia might be able to spot the die-hard fans tomorrow, as Cochrane and Scherer will probably wear the same Speedo and cape outfits to the game.
