Juggling act difficult for Fleming

Climbing two ladders at once is difficult.

Just ask Eskimo punter and kicker Sean Fleming.

For five years he has been climbing the corporate ladder at Price Waterhouse-Coopers while climbing the all-time scoring list with the Eskimos and the CFL.

Due to a statistical miscue in the CFL database, Fleming actually reached top spot on the Eskimos' all-time scoring list on Monday in Toronto.

Initially, it appeared the 14-year Esk veteran was still two points shy. But with the corrected math, he's now ahead of Dave Cutler and sixth on the CFL historical scoring list with 2,241 points. But how long will Fleming continue to work on both ladders before retiring from football?

"Physically, I think I can probably have another six, seven, eight years," he said, "but I think I will probably end up retiring before I'm ready. It really is difficult juggling both careers."

Realistically, the 35-year-old is hoping to play another three years, at which time he could be a VP at the consulting and accounting firm.

If he's playing regularly next year, he'll likely pass Dave Ridgway for fifth on the CFL scoring list.

If Fleming played four more years, he could pass Mark McLoughlin into third. Lui Passaglia is first with 3,991 points.

GREEN ENVY: One by one, veteran players made a simple request to Edmonton Eskimo equipment manager Dwayne Mandrusiak this week: Green uniform tops and green pants against the Riders.

Undefeated in the only two games the club has donned the green on green uniform look this season, the Eskimos are hoping to keep that undefeated streak alive against Saskatchewan.

"It's a tougher look," said Mandrusiak.

"Our guys look bigger and the green face mask has got a presence to it."

LATE HITS: A class move by the Riders yesterday, as the team posed for a picture with disabled Travis Shephard at Commonwealth Stadium. The local teen e-mailed the team a month ago asking for a picture - and it's the only reason the Riders came to the Stadium yesterday.
