In keeping with the CFL's initiative aimed at improving the quality of officiating, one rookie and six veteran officials were on field at Concordia University College for Edmonton Eskimos team drills yesterday.

The group of local CFL officials was then slated to huddle with the coaching staff, following the back-to-back training camp sessions.

"The league has produced what we're calling points of emphasis: illegal contact on receivers; pass interference, what is and isn't; holding; protection of the quarterback," referee Bud Steen explained.

"I know the coaching staff is going to have tons of questions. They're going to have plays they're working on right now and they're going to want some interpretations.

"That gives us an opportunity to have some give and take in a non-confrontational situation."

As part of the league-mandated undertaking, officials are scheduled to visit each of CFL's nine training camps.
