TODAY'S SCHEDULE:

7:50 to 9:35 a.m. and 9:50 to 11:35 a.m. at Concordia University College.

TOMORROW:

1 to 3 p.m. at Concordia University College.

FIRST DOWN

Two of the three fullbacks on the Esks' depth chart were spectators for both sessions yesterday. Sophomore Mathieu Bertrand has a mild groin strain and veteran Mike Maurer suffered a bruised sternum. "It's not too bad but we didn't want to take any chances and have it flare up like it did last year," said Bertrand, who played through a multitude of injuries during his rookie season. Maurer, meanwhile, won't be back on the field until Monday at the earliest. "They're going have another look at it and if it hasn't improved they may have to take some pictures," Maurer explained.

SECOND DOWN

Head coach Danny Maciocia is rapidly developing into a players' coach. Maciocia endeared himself to veterans and rookies alike by adopting a back-to-back workout format for training camp. Maciocia earned a few more Brownie points with troops by shaving 15 minutes off each session yesterday ... LB Singor Mobley and OL Joe McGrath engaged in a little slap and tickle. Teammates stepped in to stop the mini dust-up ... Import OL Michael Thompson went down in a heap for the second time in three days. The Tennessee State product twisted an ankle Wednesday and tweaked his left knee yesterday. "He got back in and threw a couple of blocks," said Maciocia. "It looks like he's good to go."

PARING DOWN

Import RB Tim Blackwell was released leaving a total of 68 players, including draft picks, in camp.
