The death of former Edmonton Eskimo David Boone, 53, has officially been ruled a suicide.

"We are satisfied that the method of death was self-inflicted by a firearm," said Art Edge of the Bellingham, Washington Sheriff's Office.

"We were called to his home in the 2100 block of Whalen Dr., Pt. Roberts, Washington after a neighbour noticed Mr. Boone sitting on his patio deck at about 0800 hrs on the 19th of March," Edge wrote in an e-mail statement.

"We believe he took his life sometime in the early morning hours of that day. We do not know if he was addressing any depression issues prior to this.

"As with any situation like this, we try to be discreet about details in order to protect the privacy of the family. It's always a sad situation when we investigate such occurrences."

Boone was a member of the original "Alberta Crude" defensive line which anchored the Edmonton Eskimos to five straight Grey Cups.

No funeral service is planned at this point, although the Eskimos, through Dave Fennell who is looking after arrangements on the scene, are considering holding a memorial in Edmonton.
