One stat says it all when it comes to Jon Cornish versus the Edmonton Eskimos.

With 211 career touches in games against the Eskimos, Cornish has carried the ball and received passes for a total of 1,702 yards.

And he’s fumbled the ball once.

Once!

Cornish had no idea when your correspondent threw that stat at him on the phone Wednesday.

“One fumble. That’s not too bad. I’ll take that. That’s less than .05 percent.

“I know I don’t have very many fumbles in my career. The fumbles I have marked against me are like pseudo interceptions. Last year I technically didn’t have a fumble in my mind. I’ll take that .05 percent.”

In his last seven games against the Eskimos, the native of New Westminster, B.C. has run for 185, 180, 69, 60, 131, 145 and 163 yards.

That’s 933 yards. In seven games.

Or 133 yards per game.

The 163, of course, came on Labour Day.

Cornish carried 17 times for an average of 9.6 yards per carry.
