Thumbs up or thumbs down?

Edmonton Eskimos quarterback Mike Reilly’s injured right thumb may prevent him from starting Monday’s Labour Day Classic.

The Esks gave backup Matt Nichols plenty of reps with the starters Thursday and Friday in case the youngster has to wade into the firestorm at McMahon Stadium.

Preparing for two different quarterbacks isn’t ideal but Stamps middle linebacker Juwan Simpson said he doesn’t care who lines up under centre for the Green & Gold.

“It doesn’t matter,” Simpson said. “They’re both good quarterbacks.

“They have a similar game style but Reilly runs a little more. That doesn’t mean Nichols can’t run.

“So we’re going to keep the same gameplan which is having 12 guys playing on the same page.”

No one in red and white would ever admit it, of course, but the Esks would be at a serious disadvantage if they’re forced to play without Reilly.
