CALGARY - Teammates called Joe West's performance Sunday 'inspirational.'

On Tuesday, the CFL recognized it as the week's best.

The Calgary Stampeders wide receiver has been named the CFL's offensive player of the week for Week 9 after a solid performance in Sunday's 32-7 victory over the Ottawa RedBlacks.

West led all CFL players last week with 129 receiving yards as he recorded the third 100-yard game of his career. Two of his four receptions Sunday came on spectacular plays that covered long distances - a 58-yard catch in the third quarter and a 51-yarder in the fourth quarter.

The receiver's performance Sunday was a courageous one as it came hours after he learned his younger brother had been the victim of a fatal shooting in Magnolia, Ark.

After some deliberation, West decided to play and he dedicated the game to his brother's memory.
