Tory Harrison quickly found out what he was walking into.

Not long after the University of Southern Mississippi product showed up at McMahon Stadium on Wednesday morning, the latest Calgary Stampeders running back was brought up to speed.

“They say RB stands for ‘Random Body,’ ” Harrison said. “They said they haven’t been lasting long around here. I just pray I can stay healthy and help the team out and just do what I can do.”

Normally, a mid-summer practice roster addition doesn’t garner much attention, but with tailbacks going down left and right through the first seven weeks of the CFL season, Harrison could be closer to live bullets than many would like to think.

With Hugh Charles, who was signed July 28 as an insurance policy, set to handle the majority of the work Saturday against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at McMaster University’s Ron Joyce Stadium (1 p.m., TSN, News Talk 770), Harrison is the only other healthy ball-carrier on the entire roster.
