CALGARY - Jon Cornish’s absence from the Calgary Stampeders lineup could be an extended one.

Unless the star running back’s concussion symptoms subside and the 29-year-old shows significant improvement in the next day or two, a source indicates Cornish will be placed on the six-game injured list. The club confirmed this Wednesday morning via Twitter.

If the transaction happens before Thursday’s Week 5 game against the Edmonton Eskimos (7 p.m., TSN, News Talk 770), Cornish would be eligible to return for the Week 11 Labour Day Replay clash against the Esks on Sept. 6.

Of course, if Cornish is ready before that point, the Stamps could simply decide to use one of two six-game pullbacks, which would then see his monetary hit go back on the salary cap.

On the field, the Stampeders have been able to cope with the loss of Cornish, winning convincingly on the road against the Toronto Argonauts, as well as grinding out a win last week against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
