Stamps DB Brandon Smith performance flies under the radar, despite matching up with the oppositions best receiver on a fairly consistent basis.

Brandon Smith isn’t your typical DB.

Unlike many who earn paycheques shadowing receivers and knocking down balls in the secondary, the Calgary Stampeders halfback isn’t a brash personality who likes to talk the talk before walking the walk.

Smith simply walks.

Quietly.

Too quietly, if you ask teammate Nik Lewis.

“Until Smitty comes out here in the media and calls out receivers or until he comes on the field and gets a 15-yard personal foul penalty for celebrating or doing something D.A.-ish, he’s not going to get the respect that he deserves,” Lewis said. “It’s long overdue, and he’s fine with that.”

Smith’s teammates see the tackles he makes to keep the chains where they are.

His teammates see the 29-year-old assigned to the best slot receiver on the other side most weeks.

And his teammates see the Oakland, Calif. native’s desire to win.
