Mike Reilly is the best running quarterback in the CFL.

And somehow — at 6-foot-3, 230 lb. — he’s the most elusive.

The Edmonton Eskimos pivot lugged the pigskin 19 times for 155 yards against the Calgary Stampeders last year, so the boys in red will obviously be ready when the two clubs clash later this week.

Stamps linebacker Deron Mayo is eager to track down the big No. 13 in green and gold.

“Anytime you can get a hit on a quarterback, you like it,” Mayo said of Reilly, who doesn’t like to slide. “But he’s good at running and he’s good at making people miss as well.

“That will be a challenge for us coming up and stopping him.

“It just adds an extra threat to their offence.”

Stopping Reilly from getting loose will be a top priority when the provincial rivals meet Thursday in the provincial capital with top spot in the West Division at stake (7 p.m., TSN, News Talk 770).
