A great start for the new starter.

That's exactly what the Calgary Stampeders were hoping for.

Bo Levi Mitchell, named the starting quarterback earlier this week, impressed in the season opener Saturday afternoon, guiding the Stamps to a 29-8 win over the visiting Montreal Alouettes at McMahon Stadium.

The 24-year-old finished 16-of-25 for 313 yards and two touchdowns, but more importantly, he did not turn the ball over.

While Mitchell and the Stamps offence were just starting to find their rhythm early in the fourth quarter, the game was halted when two players went down hard on back-to-back plays.

First, Stamps slotback Nik Lewis laid out Als safety Marc-Olivier Brouillette, and on the very next play, Kyries Hebert clotheslined reigning Most Outstanding Player Jon Cornish with a hit that earned the Als veteran linebacker an early trip to the showers.
