Bo Levi Mitchell did what he needed to do to win the Calgary Stampeders starting quarterback job.
Now, he realizes there’s a lot of work left to do in order to keep it.
Heading into Saturday’s season opener against the Montreal Alouettes at McMahon Stadium (1 p.m., TSN, News Talk 770), the 24-year-old with just three career starts under his belt is relishing everything that comes along with being the man under centre.
“The extra pressure, the extra work, it’s just something that motivates me,” Mitchell said. “Knowing that I’m the guy now, (instead of) not knowing from game to game and things like that, I’m finally getting the nod and there’s a little extra confidence from the fact that the coaches and guys are behind you and they know who’s going to step on the field at quarterback.
“My main thing is, to keep the job — which I know I will do — is to go out there and just keep putting us in position to win.
