CALGARY - Heading into his first full campaign as a starter, Deron Mayo is setting the bar high.
Coming off a season in which he stepped into the Calgary Stampeders weakside linebacker spot for an injured Malik Jackson in Week 3 and never gave the job back, the third-year Old Dominion product is eyeing the 100-tackle mark and then some in 2014.
“To be honest, I’d like to break the (CFL) record,” Mayo said following the first half of Friday’s two-a-day grind at McMahon Stadium. “I don’t even know what the record is, but I’d like to break it. I should probably go look that up. I’m trying to break records out here, but I consider winning the Grey Cup a personal goal and a team goal. That’s the one right there. I wanna get that ring on my finger.”
