CALGARY - Nik Lewis has always been fuelled by the doubters.

He takes great pride in proving the naysayers wrong.

But he found a different source of motivation on the weekend.

“My fuel changed (Sunday),” Lewis said. “When I found out Geroy (Simon) was retiring and I seen I was only about 5,500 yards behind him, my fuel changed.

“Let’s go get Geroy.”

Simon hung up his cleats as the CFL’s all-time leading receiver with 16,352 yards.

Lewis, who celebrated his 32nd birthday Tuesday, sits in 12th spot with 10,873 yards.

So he’s definitely got some work to do.

“Hopefully, no more than four years,” Lewis said.

“If I was in position to do it and I stayed the healthy the next three years, I would play a fourth year just to go get Geroy.”

Lewis has caught at least one ball in all 164 games of his 10-year career.
