Maurice Price can out-run just about anything.

CFL defensive backs? Possibly every last one of them.

World-class sprinters? Let’s put a ball in their hands and find out.

Controversy over an ill-advised tweet? Not so fast.

The Calgary Stampeders speedy receiver wasn’t able to escape the furor he caused with an anti-gay tweet he sent out last month.

But he may have gained a half-step back Sunday afternoon when he unloaded some baggage by offering an immediate apology on Day 1 of the club’s training camp.

“I just want to come here and be face-to-face with you guys and not do it from a distance and just apologize,” Price said following his first workout at McMahon Stadium.

“I’m aware that my comments were offensive.”

Price was referring to the tweet he sent out after the NFL’s St. Louis Rams drafted openly gay linebacker Michael Sam.
