CALGARY - It didn't take long for the Calgary Stampeders to make some noise at the draft table.

Slated to pick No. 7 at Tuesday evening's 2014 CFL Draft, Stamps GM/head coach John Hufnagel couldn't wait that long, trading veteran offensive lineman Jon Gott to the Ottawa RedBlacks for the first-overall pick and the rights to recently-retired offensive lineman Marwan Hage.

The Stamps then proceeded to select Laval offensive lineman Pierre Lavertu, who many had expected to be packing his bags for Ottawa.

Hufnagel was also able to hold onto his own first-round pick and will still select seventh overall.

Lavertu is seen as a plug-and-play option, who should be able to compete at both vacant guard spots in training camp.
