Johnny Forzani’s CFL season was agonizingly spent on the sidelines in street clothes.

That experience has forced the 25-year-old to pull the plug on ’14.

Due to complications from an October ’12 ankle injury that derailed his entire ’13 campaign and sent him jet-setting across the continent to different specialists in search of answers, the Calgary Stampeders receiver, who is currently without a contract, has decided to step away from the game … for the time being.

“That’s the plan, at this point — it’s the only option right now,” Forzani said Friday afternoon from California. “It’s the only option with integrity right now. I refuse to put a team, especially Calgary, in a position where I’m not going to be able to be effective. And if I’m not going to be able to be effective, and I’m going to be sitting on the sideline getting rehab every day, and it’s not really getting anywhere, and I’m not playing.
