If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.

And that’s exactly what Kevin Dixon is doing with the Calgary Stampeders.

It’s been a tough go of it for the 6-foot-2, 240-lb. defensive lineman over the past two years, but a year away from football may have been exactly what Dixon needed to get healthy.

On the first day of training camp in 2012, Dixon tore up his knee and missed the entire season.

He gave it another go last spring but couldn’t pass his physical and was released only hours before the start of camp.

In a nine-game cameo — including two starts — in his rookie season back in 2011, Dixon notched a pair of sacks, two tackles for a loss and forced a fumble, and Stamps GM/head coach John Hufnagel didn’t forget.

“Kevin showed great promise as a rookie in 2011, and I know that he has worked extremely hard to get healthy again,” Hufnagel said. “I look forward to seeing him back on the field at full strength.”
