CALGARY - The Calgary Stampeders continue to stock the roster in preparation for training camp, signing a pair of non-import defenders Thursday.

Linebacker/defensive backs Ryland Smith and Akeem Whonder inked contracts with the club.

Terms were not disclosed.

Both players suited up as fifth-year seniors for their respective CIS clubs last season, with Smith plying his trade at Bishop's, while Whonder spent his time with the Windsor Lancers.

Smith recorded 46 total tackles, two quarterback sacks, two forced fumbles and a blocked kick in nine games in 2013. The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder switched from defensive back to linebacker before his final year with the Gaiters.
