Why sign with a team employing the first Canadian MOP in 35 years?

It's the question at the forefront of Thursday's announcement that running back Martell Mallett had officially signed on the dotted line with the Calgary Stampeders.

You may have heard, but some guy named Jon Cornish resides in the Stampeders backfield.

Some Most-Outstanding-Player guy.

Some Most-Outstanding-Canadian guy, two years running.

Some Lou-Marsh-Award-winning guy.

Some guy with 2,000 yards in his sights heading into 2014.

But even though Mallett suited up for just one CFL season in 2009 and hasn't played a down since, the 27-year-old compiled quite the resume of his own in the lone campaign, piling up 1,240 yards and six touchdowns along the ground, as well as catching 43 balls out of the backfield and two scores through the air.
