CALGARY - On one hand, it seemed like a foregone conclusion.

On the other, the wild and wacky world of award voting can take many unforeseen twists.

Twists weren’t part of the storyline — for the Calgary Stampeders, at least — Thursday morning when the CFL announced its finalists for major awards to be handed out later this month in Regina.

For the second straight year, Jon Cornish is a double-nominee, earning recognition as both the West Division Most Outstanding Player finalist, as well as being up for Most Outstanding Canadian.

Three other Stamps were recognized, with kicker Rene Paredes’ record-breaking season earning him the West Division nomination for Most Outstanding Special Teams Player, while Charleston Hughes is up for Most Outstanding Defensive Player, and Brett Jones is angling for Most Outstanding Rookie.
