CALGARY - Marquay McDaniel doesn’t need to step up.

He just needs to keep stepping up.

With Calgary Stampeders wideout Joe West back on the self for a few weeks with a bum shoulder, McDaniel’s production becomes even more critical for the CFL club.

But that’s nothing new for the veteran sloback, who has been the Red & White’s most consistent receiving threat all season.

With a different receiver — or two or three — going down on a weekly basis, McDaniel has been the one constant.

He has led the team in receiving six times this season. No other receiver on the team has topped the charts more than three times.

“As soon as I heard the news about Nik (Lewis) — and Mo was hurt and Joe (West) was already out — I knew I was the veteran,” McDaniel said.

“The onus was going to be on me and Jabari (Arthur) in the receiving core. I figured I was going to get more balls, which every receiver likes.
