CALGARY - Rob Maver is no longer a Lonesome Kicker.

Adam Sandler’s song pokes fun at the somewhat solitary life of football’s specialists.

But the Calgary Stampeders punter had his very own media scrum Tuesday afternoon.

Maver was named CFL special-teams player of the week after a huge game last Friday in a 26-22 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

“The main thing is we’re 9-2, but it’s always nice to be recognized for your efforts,” Maver said after he averaged 48.8 yards on five boots and completed a 31-yard pass to Matt Walter on a key fourth-quarter fake punt.

Maver says that pass probably put him over the top for the weekly honour.

“Probably,” said the University of Guelph product. “All the punters in the league are doing a great job. So anything that’s different to separate yourself from them.
