Johnny Forzani’s 2012 CFL season ended last October with a high-ankle sprain.

His ’13 campaign is going to start that way, as well.

Calgary Stampeders head coach/GM John Hufnagel said the field-stretching wideout underwent surgery on the left ankle malady three weeks ago and won’t be on the field when training camp starts June 2.

To boot, Forzani’s participation in the June 28 season opener against the B.C. Lions at McMahon Stadium is looking extremely doubtful.

“Johnny Forzani’s going to be a while,” Hufnagel said Thursday. “He had that high-ankle sprain that put him on the nine-game (injured list) and finished his season. It didn’t heal the way it needed to be to play football, so he went to a specialist and had a procedure done roughly three weeks ago.

“Now, it’s a matter of that healing up and rehabbing it and getting him back on the field.”
