Booster club says Cornish, Humphries best athletes of 2012
By IAN BUSBY, QMI Agency

Stamps running back Jon Cornish was named the Calgary Booster Club's male athlete of the year Wednesday. SUN file photo.

During his chase of Normie Kwong's 56-year-old Canadian rushing record, Jon Cornish learned quite a bit about history.

Football wasn't the only thing the Calgary Stampeders running back studied.

There is much more to Kwong's legacy than just what happened on a CFL field, since the eventual Calgary Flames owner and lieutenant-governor of Alberta had quite a business resume, too.

"He's an impressive Canadian all around," said Cornish, who was named the Calgary Booster Club 2012 male athlete of the year Wednesday.

"Learning about him has inspired me to follow in his footsteps. He established himself in football, but he established himself in a lot of different areas. He might be more recognized for his accomplishments outside of football than what he did in it.

"For that reason, I finally have a role model."
