Mace anxious to return to live action
By WES GILBERTSON, QMI Agency

CALGARY - Think Corey Mace was anxious to return to action?

While most of his Calgary Stampeders teammates were likely relieved to learn Monday’s morning session at McMahon Stadium was only a walkthrough, the second-year defensive tackle was craving a bit more contact in his first full workout since off-season back surgery.

“Actually, I didn’t know that it was a walkthrough,” Mace said. “I got here super early compared to normal, and I jumped on the training table to get my ankles taped, and the trainers looked at me like, ‘You know it’s a walkthrough, right?’

Mace had surgery in December to repair a herniated disc in his back and was a spectator for the first eight days of training camp.

On Monday, he was activated from the injured list.

To make room for Mace on the roster, the Stamps released defensive back Courtney Robinson.

Extra points

Stampeders WR Arjei Franklin missed Monday’s workouts with a groin injury, while WR Larry Taylor was also a spectator for most of the day, emerging from the locker-room in full gear with about 40 minutes remaining in the late session … OL Jon Gott (concussion) and Dimitri Tsoumpas (hamstring) continue to watch from the sidelines and will be scratched for Wednesday’s exhibition game against the B.C. Lions.
