No. 1 has won the first showdown with Anthony Calvillo.

Henry Burris was named the CFL all-Canadian at quarterback for the first time in his career Wednesday.

Being that the Football Reporters of Canada and the eight head coaches also vote on the CFL most outstanding player award, there is a chance Burris captures the league’s top honour for the first time as well.

The only difference between MOP and all-star voting is fan participation, so Burris is not counting on it until he hears his name called next Thursday at the awards night in Edmonton.

“I thought back in 2008, things were going to happen,” Burris said.

“Whatever happens, I’m honoured to receive it.

“I worked my butt off my entire career on and off the field to prepare myself for football. To receive things like this along the journey means that much more.

“I don’t know how many years I have left in my career being 35 now. It means that much more for it to happen now.”

In 2008, Burris lost out to Calvillo for all-star and MOP awards, but beat him in the Grey Cup.
