CALGARY - For the second time in three years, Henry Burris led the Calgary Stampeders to the West Division title and is rewarded for it.

Burris was named the Stamps’ nominee for most outstanding player Wednesday morning as the team awards were announced by the CFL.

The Stamps quarterback, who leads the CFL in touchdown passes this season, should be the West Division favourite. He faces Saskatchewan’s QB Darian Durant, B.C. Lions kicker Paul McCallum and Edmonton Eskimos receiver Fred Stamps.

For the second straight year, left tackle Ben Archibald is the team’s most outstanding lineman. He won the West Division award last year.

Middle linebacker Juwan Simpson is the top defensive player for the Stamps. He’s in his third season in Calgary but first playing his natural position.

Running back Jon Cornish, who topped the 500-yard mark for the first time, was named top Canadian.

Right tackle Edwin Harrison is the top rookie after starting the first 15 games of the season in replacing veteran Jeff Pilon.

Punter Burke Dales is also a first-time nominee, picking up the special teams award for his league-leading average this season.

These six team nominees were selected by six members of the Football Reporters of Canada (Calgary chapter) as well as one ballot cast by the Stamps coaching staff.

The the Gibson’s Finest CFL Player Awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, Nov. 25, of Grey Cup week in Edmonton.
