Burris not bothered by trash talk

REGINA -- Some member of Rider Nation feel they have crawled inside Henry Burris' brain and messed with the controls.

They believe all the trash talk that the Calgary Stampeders quarterback hears at Mosaic Stadium is the reason his team is winless in the past four trips to Regina.

There was even a fan quoted in the local paper saying they were in Burris' head, to which the former Saskatchewan Riders pivot just laughed.

"Unless they are a psychiatrist, I have no idea how they would know that," Burris said after signing autographs and meeting with fans at the team's hotel in Regina.

"I don't know of any fans in my head or any that live in my house. It's only the game plan in my head. The only guys I pay attention to are guys in jerseys and helmets."

There should be no shortage of strange-looking characters in the crowd for Sunday's meeting between the Riders and Stamps.

Thanks to birthday-party photos of Burris wearing a bra getting circulated, some are planning on wearing watermelon tops.

Burris said he won't be affected by it, just as he wasn't the last time he came to Regina a month ago.

"We're here to play a football game," Burris said. "We won't pay attention to what people say or do. The most important thing happens between the white stripes out there."

Labinjo done for season

If the Stampeders are to win the Grey Cup this season, they will have to do it without 2008 Cup hero Mike Labinjo.

The fourth-year defensive end has a torn triceps tendon and will miss the rest of 2010. He suffered the injury last Monday against the Montreal Alouettes and the Stamps have put him on the nine-game injured list so his salary doesn't count against the cap.

It's similar to the injury that ended his 2007 campaign.

"He's getting an operation as soon as they can get him in," said Stamps head coach John Hufnagel.
