Nik Lewis finally gets a chance to beat Kenny Pettway like a rented Mulerider.

As college teammates with Southern Arkansas, the two ‘Muleriders’ struck up a friendship despite being on opposites sides of the ball.

Now, they meet for the first time in the pros, and Pettway could be in Lewis’ line of fire. The Calgary Stampeders slotback is known for his punishing blocks on defensive ends, so the Edmonton Eskimos first-year lineman better keep his head up.

“In some plays he’s supposed to block me, so we’re going to see how good he really is,” Pettway said.

“But I’m just ready to see him out there on the field. Either way it goes, we’ve just got to go out there and take care of business.”

Lewis and Pettway have stayed in touch as Lewis came to the CFL in 2004 and Pettway first transferred to Grambling State and then spent five years in the NFL.

They are so close that when Pettway got married last year, Lewis was one of the groomsmen.

Shortly after Pettway signed with the Eskimos during the off-season, Lewis spent some time at his Texas home, even filming a video and posting it on his website.

“Eskimos fans … you got a great player, just not against me,” Lewis said in the video.

Lewis will be trash-talking, but that’s not Pettway’s game.

“He can talk all day,” Pettway said about Lewis. “He can talk your ear off, man. You’d have to kick him out — he talks too much.”
