Osie Ukwuoma got a taste of professional football last summer.
This time, he's hoping to stick around a little longer.
Ukwuoma spent five weeks on the Calgary Stampeders practice roster last season before returning to Queen's University, where he helped the Golden Gaels win the Vanier Cup.
The Stampeders announced Tuesday the non-import defensive lineman, their fifth-round pick in last year's draft, has been invited back to training camp.
"Osie definitely held his own (last year)," said Stamps GM-head coach John Hufnagel. "We were pleased with his progress. And we're excited about seeing him back here."
The club also signed Canadian-born linebacker Mike Cornell, who just finished his post-secondary career with the Ottawa Gee-Gees.
"Mike also had a very productive university career at Ottawa," Hufnagel said. "We expect him to be in the mix at middle linebacker."
SERGENT BACK FOR SNAKES
The Calgary Vipers are bringing back their ace, as the team announced Tuesday star southpaw Joe Sergent will be returning for another Golden League season.
He was a stud for the Snakes last season, with a 7-3 record and 72 strikeouts during the regular season. The 29-year-old then won two games in helping the Vipers to the league title.
The Vipers report to training camp next week.
