Rick Campbell is excited now but isn’t sure how he’ll feel on Labour Day.

The Calgary Stampeders' new running back coach basically grew up in the Edmonton Eskimos organization and coached with the Double E for 10 years.

So now that he’s on the other side of the Battle of Alberta, Campbell doesn’t know what it will be like on the homeside for the Labour Day Classic.

“I have to make sure I walk to the correct sideline. It will be different in the moment,” said Campbell, who spent last season with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers as special teams co-ordinator and defensive backs coach.

“I got a taste of it last year playing Edmonton twice while I was in Winnipeg. I’m sure it’s going to take it to another level being with Calgary. This is a good organization and a good place to work.

“Me and my family have great respect for Calgary. They have a habit of winning around here, so it wasn’t a tough decision.”

Campbell was the Esks’ defensive co-ordinator in his final four seasons with the club. Prior to that promotion, the son of Eskimos legend Hugh Campbell worked on special teams and the secondary, so this move marks the first time he’s joining the offensive side of the staff.

The fact Campbell brings a defensive slant to the offence is something that drew Stamps GM/coach John Hufnagel to him.

“It really intrigued me,” Hufnagel said. “I thought it would be a nice slant for offensive game plan meetings to have someone give their perspective from a defensive side.

“It will be interesting to see him in Red and White. I know he’s excited about it.”

The Stamps finalized their entire coaching staff for the 2010 season Friday, officially naming Dave Dickenson the quarterbacks coach. It was offensive co-ordinator George Cortez’s departure to the Buffalo Bills that opened the door for Campbell to join the team.

In other football news, the University of Calgary Dinos informed defensive co-ordinator John Stevens his services are no longer required after seven seasons as an assistant.
