Stamps re-sign Robede

Miguel Robede is staying in the Stampede City.

The non-import defensive lineman signed a contract extension with the Calgary Stampeders Monday.

Stamps GM/head coach John Hufnagel said the 2005 first-overall draft pick is starting to come into his own.

“Miguel did a nice job for us while rotating at defensive tackle last season,” Hufnagel said. “He came up with some big plays and we’ll be looking for more of the same in 2010.”

Robede played perhaps his best game of the season in the club’s loss to the Saskatchewan Rougfhriders in the West Final.

The 6-foot-4, 278-pounder had his only sack of the season, recovered a fumble and recorded five tackles in the playoff loss.

The 28-year-old said he’s happy to be staying with the only CFL team he’s ever played for.

“I’m happy to be back with Calgary,” Robede said. “The Stamps — and this coaching staff in particular — have always showed faith in me, which makes it easy to come back here.

“This has always been a great city to play in and I’m definitely looking forward to the season.”

Terms of the contract were not released.
