Striking first on the game's opening drive, the Stampeders managed to evade a strong Blue Bombers pass rush to come away with points. QB Henry Burris managed first-down tosses to SB Jeremaine Copeland (16 yards) and WR Brett Ralph, who picked up eight yards on a key third-down gamble with a little more than a yard to gain. With just enough power, K Sandro DeAngelis booted a 48-yard field goal for a 3-0 lead ... His second field goal was much closer at 20 yards, set up after a Bombers fumble on the ensuing kickoff. Dwaine Carpenter forced it out with a big hit and Jon Cornish recovered. A long pass and then even longer run by RB Joffrey Reynolds got them deep into Bombers territory and DeAngelis kicked a 20-yarder to make it 6-0 ... The rout was on after a 62-yard bomb from Burris to Ralph took them to the two-yard line including a few extra tacked on for a horse-collar tackle at the end of it. Reynolds punched it in for the major and a 13-0 lead ... The Bombers two and out all three drives.
SB Nik Lewis made a nine-yard grab to end the first quarter, and picked up his 400th CFL catch on the same drive. His catch was just short of a first down, but Henry Burris picks it up on the ground for a fresh set of sticks. A couple of missed passes lead to yet another Sandro DeAngelis field goal (17 yards) and a 16-0 Stampeders lead ... James Johnson gives the Bombers a 40-yard return but a fourth straight two and out ends with QB Michael Bishop lying on the field for a few minutes after being hammered by DT Tom Johnson as he got rid of the ball ... Bishop comes back on the next drive, and gets some help from the Stamps defence for a pair of first downs -- on an illegal contact infraction by CB Brandon Browner and then a pass interference call against S Milton Collins -- their first of the game. The drive ends with a 54-yard field goal from Alexis Serna to make it 16-3 ... A sack pins the Stamps deep. Facing second and 27, Burris hits Lewis to get close enough to measure. Just shy, he rushes for it himself on third down and then gets clutch grabs from Markus Howell (17), Jeremaine Copeland (21) and a pass interference call to get them in the red zone. Joffrey Reynolds gets in for his second TD of the half, stretching out and breaking the plane to cap off a 17-yard reception. The Stamps' 23-3 lead is safe after the Bombers choose to run another play and running out of time rather than kick a field goal from makeable distance.
Going to the ground to get back in the game, the Bombers got a huge 35-yard run from Fred Reid to jumpstart their opening drive of the second half. Michael Bishop then hit Brett Ralph's brother, Brock, for a first down. Reid capped off the drive with a touchdown run untouched up the middle to cut the lead to 23-10 ... The Stamps struggle offensively, and the defence can't adjust to the new Bombers gameplan. Reid gained another 34 yards on the ground before S Milton Collins tackled him. A pass interference call was costly, putting the Bombers in scoring territory again. Luckily for the home side, the Bombers had to settle for an Alexis Serna field goal from 18 yards out to make it 23-13 after a seven-play, 68-yard drive ... Bishop is hurt for a second time and fumbles the ball. Dwaine Carpenter recovers and the Stamps make good on the very next play with Henry Burris hooking up with rookie Titus Ryan for a 36-yard TD to make it 30-13.
Yvenson Bernard and Fred Reid continued to dish out punishment to keep things close. Bernard had a big run late in the third, then a touchdown called back for a bad block after they switched sides. A pass interference call against Dwight Anderson in the endzone put the ball on the one and Reid popped it in to make it 30-20 for the Stamps ... Calgary got back on the board with a punt single after their drive stalled at midfield, making the score 31-20 ... The Bombers wouldn't quit, putting together an eight play, 66 yard drive together. Reid made a great diving catch, and WR Adarius Bowman came up with an 18-yard grab to put the ball in the red zone. A big defensive breakup courtesy of Anderson forced an 18-yard field goal from Alexis Serna, making it 31-23 Stamps ... The Stamps defence made a big stand at centre field with a little more than a minute remaining to preserve the lead, then did it again after Burris was picked off, intercepting one back courtesy of Wes Lysack on a tip the other way.
