Brotherly love on hold as Teyo set to silence sibling again

Teyo Johnson has a streak to keep intact.

In three previous meetings with his older brother, Riall, the Calgary Stampeders fullback boasts a perfect record.

"I'm 3-0 against him. He hasn't got me yet," Teyo said with a smile.

"I'm trying to make it 4-0. I have the bragging rights at the dinner table right now, but I want some more."

The Johnson brothers will renew acquaintances again tonight, when Teyo's Stampeders host Riall and the rest of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (7:30 p.m., McMahon Stadium, TSN).

If history is any indication, bettors might want to make a beeline to the closest convenience store to put a few bucks on Teyo's team.

Riall, 31, spent last season with the Toronto Argonauts, a woeful bunch that stumbled through back-to-back thrashings at the hands of Teyo's Stampeders, losing the two games by a combined score of 78-20.

Their only other professional showdown came while both were playing four-down football south of the border in 2003, when Teyo and the Oakland Raiders squeaked past Riall and the Cincinnati Bengals on a last-second field goal.

The Blue Bombers beat the Stamps 42-30 in Week 2, but Riall wasn't in Winnipeg's lineup. As far as Teyo's tabulation goes, that one doesn't count.

What remains to be seen is the impact either brother will have on the outcome of the game.

Riall has dressed for only three of Winnipeg's five games, while his 27-year-old brother has been a fixture on the field, but hasn't been utilized much as an offensive weapon.

After racking up 248 receiving yards and making two trips to the endzone in 2008, Teyo has hauled in just three passes so far this season, including one major.

Just don't expect the laid-back blocking specialist to make a public plea for extra attention.

"I'm a plowhorse and a racehorse, wherever coach wants to use me," he said.

"Obviously, I would love to touch the ball every play, but you've got to execute the game plan and be a pro about what your role is."
