CALGARY STAMPEDERS 37
B.C. LIONS 30
With QB Henry Burris and the bulk of the Stamps starters calling it a night before the end of the first quarter, the freshmen had a chance to showcase their skills against a slate of no-names competing for jobs with the Lions.
CATCH OF THE GAME
R Ryan Thelwell dropped a couple of passes in the first half, but the wily veteran certainly looked good on the one he held on to. Thelwell shrugged off double-coverage and jumped to grab an air-ball from QB Henry Burris for an 18-yard gain.
RUN OF THE GAME
SB Jabari Arthur turned a ho-hum short pass into the most exciting play of the game, reeling in a pass from QB Matt D'Orazio and turning upfield, eventually undressing a pair of Lions defenders during his 81-yard scamper to the end-zone.
HIT OF THE GAME
Lions R Otis Amey was staring at a sure-thing first down on just the second play of the game, but the rookie couldn't corral the pass after being drilled by Stamps DB Dwight Anderson.
Stampeders K Sandro DeAngelis was 3-for-3 on field goals, including a 49-yarder that barely cleared the bar ... QB Henry Burris doesn't have to worry about losing his starting job, but Smilin' Hank was hardly spectacular last night, finishing 3-for-7 for 42 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions ... Injured Stampeders S Milton Collins (hamstring), DL Tom Johnson (calf), OL Jesse Newman (ankle), OL Jeff Pilon (knee), R Ken-Yon Rambo (hamstring) and RB Demetris Summers (hamstring) didn't suit up ... Former Stamps R Greg Hetherington made a few nice grabs for the Lions.
The Stamps travel to Regina for an exhibition tilt Tuesday against the Saskatchewan Roughriders, 7 p.m.
