Fans hope play was no strip tease

Although Brandon Browner doesn't want to hear it, he was the best stripper in Montreal last Thursday.

The Calgary Stampeders defensive back knocked the ball loose twice from Alouettes running back Jarrett Payton for key turnovers.

Another outing similar to that, say tonight against B.C. Lions running back Joe Smith, and Browner could be the best stripper in the league.

"Nah, I don't really like to think of it like that," said the first-year Stampeder. "It was only one game.

"If I can do it again that would be nice. We have to make those tackles. You look at the circumstances of the game.

"We had him wrapped up and I came in and hit it from him. It turned into good plays."

Overall, the Stamps allowed Payton to get 160 yards despite the two fumbles.

Calgary does get cornerback Crance Clemons back from a neck injury, a stinger he suffered when he was nailed in Edmonton by teammate Shannon James.

MAXIE OFF TO INDY

The Stamps are guaranteed to make one roster move after this game. Defensive lineman Demetrious Maxie is heading to Indianapolis Saturday to continue his usual job of scouting for the club.

Maxie came out of a retirement last week when Keron Williams was injured.

"Maxie signed his termination papers today but we dated them for tomorrow because he will be gone to Colts training camp by Saturday night," said head coach Tom Higgins. "In an athlete's mind, they believe they can still play even when they're 40 or 50 years old. That's not the case."
