REGINA -- A little more than 15 minutes into his CFL debut, Tearrius George was sent to the showers.

Early in the second quarter of last night's 49-8 loss to the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the Calgary Stampeders defensive lineman was battling with a pair of offensive lineman.

He was then flagged for kicking, given a 25-yard unnecessary roughing penalty and booted from the game.

George started in place of injured defensive end Anthony Gargiulo, and when he was kicked out, there were only four lineman left to rotate through the three-man front.

"This is really disappointing," George said. "It's a foolish mistake, something I'll learn from and never do again."

The Roughriders didn't capitalize, but head coach Tom Higgins said the play could have been the turning point in what was a tied game.

"It really started to go downhill when we got a player disqualified," Higgins said. "It wasn't all his fault."
