RETURNEES:

Henry Burris (ninth year in CFL, sixth with Stamps).

THE DEPARTED:

Danny McManus (retired), David Corley (released).

NEW ARRIVALS:

Free agents Akili Smith, Ryan Cubit, Barrick Nealy.

THE SKINNY:

The Stamps had the No. 1 offence in terms of yardage last season but were often stalled in the red zone. Turnovers hurt in the playoff loss so the starter will need to avoid those costly mistakes. There is a number of diverse weapons on offence that should make the job easier.

THE FAVOURITE:

Burris is back for this third year as the Stamps No. 1 man and will hope to erase the memories of two straight first-round playoff losses. He should benefit from the return of offensive co-ordinator George Cortez, who was last with the Stamps in 2001 when they won their last Grey Cup. Cortez doubles as quarterbacks coach and will work closely with Burris on ironing out those kinks. Burris is the best man for the job until a better alternative proves otherwise.

THE SLEEPER:

Former first-round NFL draft pick Smith brings all the tools necessary to be a No. 1 quarterback and his presence alone should push Burris to be better. But the most intriguing prospect is Barrick Nealy, who spent three weeks with the club last year. Nealy is 6 ft. 5 in. and has tremendous pocket presence, plus the ability to move away from the rush the way Burris can.
