WINNIPEG -- Sandro DeAngelis has his foot inside the Calgary Stampeders' record book.

The second-year placekicker booted a 43-yard field goal, his 55th of the season, late in the second quarter last night to establish a new team mark.

The old standard was set by retired kicker Mark McLoughlin, the team's all-time scoring leader, who kicked 54 field goals in 1996.

DeAngelis needed six field goals to surpass the CFL record of 59 set by Saskatchewan's Dave Ridgway in 1990.

"That was a great feeling and I really can't believe it," said the 25-year-old DeAngelis.

"To beat a record held by a guy like (McLoughlin) who has his number retired is pretty special."

The record kick barely cleared the crossbar despite a brisk wind at his back on a chilly night at Winnipeg's Canad Inns Stadium

"To do it so early in my career, at such a young age ... that ball's going on my mantel," DeAngelis said.

DeAngelis also connected from nine yards and kicked one convert.

He is the CFL's scoring leader with 214 points going into the final week of the season.
