The Calgary Stampeders have been selling their home games as a special brand of excitement for local football fans.

The finish of yesterday's 32-25 win over the visiting B.C. Lions got a little too exciting thanks to a not-so-special play by Calgary's punt team.

Leading 32-18 and punting from their own 43 with 1:03 remaining, Lions defender Kendrick Jones somehow slipped through to block Burke Dales' punt.

The ball bounded toward Calgary's endzone where Ryan Thelwell scooped it up for a touchdown, bringing the Lions within seven points, although their ensuing short kickoff failed.

"The get-off time was great but sometimes a guy squeaks through," said Dales. "When you need a block like they did, you've got 12 guys out there who are hungry to get it done."

It was the first time the Stamps had a punt blocked this season.

"At the end of the game that (stuff) shouldn't happen," said d-lineman Demetrious Maxie.

"We gave up seven points like that, they kick an on-sider and get the ball back they could tie it up then we go to overtime.

"Stuff like that shouldn't happen."
