Game over

IAN BUSBY -- Calgary Sun

, Last Updated: 10:22 AM ET

SUN THREE STARS:

1. ESKIMOS QB RICKY RAY -- The Edmonton quarterback showed great leadership and, when needed, made the big pass or the big run, especially late with the game on the line.

2. ESKIMOS RB TROY DAVIS -- The bulldog was the sole reason his team was able to build a 16-point lead in the first half.

3. STAMPS KR J.R. RUFFIN -- Scored on a 90-yard kickoff return in the second quarter, the first TD of its kind for the Stamps since 2003.

WHY THE ESKIMOS WON:

Edmonton QB Ricky Ray took the team on his shoulders and drove the offence 96 yards on 12 plays for the winning TD with six seconds left in the game.

GREAT CATCH:

Esks FB Mike Maurer was on a collision course with Stamps DB Coby Rhinehart but he dove for a Ricky Ray pass anyway. Maurer stretched out and hauled the pass in as Rhinehart flew over him.

HUGE HITS:

Eskimos rookie DL Adam Braidwood blasted past the tackle to drill Stamps QB Henry Burris and knock the ball free for Charles Alston. Later, Stamps DB Coby Rhinehart slammed into Eskimos SB Derrell Mitchell as soon as he caught a pass but Rhinehart received a major foul call for hitting helmet to helmet.

KEY STAT:

90 -- The length of J.R. Ruffin's kickoff return touchdown that gave the Stamps their first major and revived a struggling team.

NOTABLES:

J.R. Ruffin's 90-yard kickoff return touchdown was the Stampeders first kickoff score since James Hundon did it during the 2003 Labour Day Classic. Hundon's score was 103 yards. Ruffin's score was the first kickoff return TD this season in the CFL ... Stamps LB Khalid Abdullah went down with an apparent hamstring injury ... Eskimos S J.R. LaRose was injured in the third quarter, then his replacement, Kelly Wiltshire, hurt his knee from a block from Stamps SB Nik Lewis on the next play.
