Stamps' kicker adds something bizarre to win

Sandro DeAngelis provided one of the best highlights of the CFL season so far by kicking the game-winning 45-yard field goal last Thursday night and then sprinting nearly 60 yards to the Calgary Stampeders' dressing room door.

But DeAngelis - an Italian soccer fan - actually wanted to add an extra soccer-style twist to his celebration, but couldn't pull off the trick.

"Football jerseys are so tight or else I would have ripped it off and put it over my head," DeAngelis told the media.

STRANGE BUT TRUE: Former Stampeder president and marketing guru Ron Rooke won the $12,000 50/50 draw at McMahon Stadium last week.

Fired by the Stampeders in 2005, Rooke was only introduced as "Ron" by the public address announcer during the on-field cheque presentation that took place late in the game.

In a strange twist, Rooke received the cheque from Stamps' VP Stan Schwartz.

The pair hadn't spoken to each other for years after having a falling out.

POWER OUTAGE: With all that firepower in Hamilton - QB Jason Maas, receivers Terry Vaughn and D.J. Flick and running backs Josh Ranek and Corey Holmes - the Ti-Cats' offence has only produced three touchdowns entering Week 4.

SHORT HITS: For those keeping track, Maas has thrown just one touchdown pass and six interceptions this year. Ricky Ray has four TDs and two INTs ... The CFL is definitely a homer league so far this regular season. The home teams have won 10 of the 11 games through three weeks. Montreal is the only team to have won on the road so far ... Kicker Rob Pikula has become the super-sub of the young season. Cut in Saskatchewan at the end of training camp, he surfaced in B.C. with the injury to Paul McCallum and has been nothing short of stellar. A perfect four-for-four in the field goal department last Friday, he played a key role in the Lions' win against Toronto. In his two games for the Lions, he is six-for-seven.
