Training camp hopefuls will find the Calgary Stampeders receiving corps a tough unit to crack.

Yet GM Jim Barker may have found, in former NFLer Scotty Anderson, a candidate with enough credentials to win a spot in the lineup.

The Stamps yesterday signed the speedy wide receiver with several legitimate NFL stops on his resume.

"Scotty Anderson has an extensive NFL background and gives us a true vertical threat," Barker said yesterday in a statement.

The Stamps also signed import receivers Vince Strang, Anthony Bright and Andrew Ginther.

"Both Strang and Bright are very fast and have experience returning kicks," Barker added. "Ginther is a young Canadian with a combination of speed and toughness."

Anderson, a 27-year-old Grambling State product, is billed as a threat similar to Edmonton's Jason Tucker, last season's leading CFL receiver.

Anderson has played 34 NFL games and has twice posted five catches in one contest.

He was the first of two fifth-round selections by the Detroit Lions in the 2001 NFL Draft. He also toiled with Arizona and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

In 2003, Anderson emerged as the Lions' deep threat, accounting for the three longest plays from scrimmage during the season, including a career-long 72-yard touchdown catch.

Strang, 27, caught 17 passes for 205 yards and five touchdowns as a wide receiver and punt returner for UC-Berkley in 2003.

Bright, 29, spent last season with the Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League and has also seen action with the NFL's Houston Texans and Carolina Panthers.

Ginther ranks first-all time in receptions (137) and second in yards (2,188) in Alberta Golden Bears history. He led the CIS with 50 receptions in 2004.
