IAN BUSBY -- Calgary Sun

PLAYERS OF THE GAME:

OFFENCE -- Eskimos SB Derrell (Mookie) Mitchell wasn't spectacular but was willing to go over the middle for yardage all game. He was QB Ricky Ray's favourite target, catching 11 passes for 108 yards, the longest for 24. Several of Mitchell's receptions kept drives going as he dove into defenders fearlessly.

DEFENCE -- Stamps LB John Grace blitzed hard all game and recorded three quarterback sacks on Ricky Ray. Grace also had a tackle for a loss and was in the face of the Eskimos pivot all game, knocking him to the turf on two other occasions.

SPECIAL TEAMS -- Eskimos backup defensive end Tim Fleiszer found the hole on punt coverage and went in untouched to stuff a Burke Dales' punt. Mike Bradley picked the ball up for a nine-yard fumble recovery touchdown to give Edmonton a 20-1 lead in the second quarter.

TURNING POINT:

Calgary was within range to tie the game with less than a minute left in the fourth quarter but needed a two-point convert after a Henry Burris one-yard touchdown plunge. But some confusion led to a time count violation and the Stamps were forced back to the 10-yard line. Burris was then sacked on the play by DL Cedric Scott.

CATCH OF THE GAME:

Esks WR Trevor Gaylor turned inside on Stamps CB Coby Rhinehart to make a spectacular grab in the second quarter. Rhinehart had blanket coverage on the play but Gaylor still snagged the ball with less than six inches of room to move.

HIT OF THE GAME:

Stamps QB Henry Burris double-faked a handoff to Ken-Yon Rambo and Kori Dickerson before finding a wide-open Joffrey Reynolds 20 yards downfield. But Eskimos safety Kelly Wiltshire met the running back just as he caught the ball and knocked the wind out of him and the ball loose.

NOTABLES:

Stamps WR Brett Ralph won the battle of the Raymond, Alta., brothers in terms of production. Eskimos WR Brock Ralph only caught one pass for six yards, while Brett hauled in four passes for 88 yards, including a 61 yard TD strike ... Stamps LB George White recorded a game-high 11 defensive tackles ... In his debut with the Eskimos and first game in more than two years, RB Michael Jenkins rushed five times for 24 yards. He also caught one pass for 11 yards.
