The Stampeders have brought back import DE Jerame Southern, a late cut from training camp, to take the roster spot of the injured Demetrious Maxie.

Terrance Patrick could get the start Wednesday in Toronto.

Higgins said the team is being cautious about bringing injured players back too quickly, risking more serious damage in the heart of the season.

"You've got to be careful because we're still in that middle-third of the season where a mistake now could cost us later," Higgins said.

Injured DBs Ben Kelly (hamstring) could play this week, if necessary, but isn't expected to return until Labour Day, when non-import C Jamie Crysdale (knee) and import HB Joey Boese (hamstring) are also expected to suit up.

RB Joffrey Reynolds was hurt in Montreal and experienced the same tingling sensations in his legs as when he was injured against Winnipeg a couple of weeks ago. He returned to the game and has been deemed healthy for the Argos game.

TURNING HEADS: Newcomer import HB Shane Walton impressed Higgins with his play in Montreal, just days after arriving in camp. The Notre Dame product picked off one Anthony Calvillo pass while avoiding disaster the rest of the night, just what was expected of him.

"When he was at Notre Dame, he was a playmaker and has a nose for the ball and he showed that in his first outing," Higgins said.

"It would have been easy to make major mistakes because it's so different than what he's used to, with the motion and everything else that comes your way.

"It's definitely passing grades for him and the rest of the secondary. We have to have another consistent outing this week in Toronto."
