WINNIPEG -- Nik Lewis is looking to join elite company.

The Stamps rookie receiver is just 39 yards shy of recording 1,000 yards receiving, a feat that only four other Red and White freshmen have accomplished: Terry Evanshen (1966), Allen Pitts (1990), Terry Vaughn (1995) and Marc Boerigter (2000).

Lewis admits he's aware of how close he is to joining the 1,000-yard club.

"I've been thinking about it a little bit," the 22-year-old says.

"I'm going to play hard and hopefully come out with more than just 39 yards.

"I'd like to come out of the last game with 100 or so."

There's no chance QB Khari Jones will forget about Lewis.

"I want him to get 1,000 yards, so I'm sure I'll be looking for him a little bit," Jones says.

"In the end, you want the win and I know he would take that over the individual accolades.

"But I'm going to work hard to find him out there."

Lewis has been at the centre of a controversy this past week after he alleged an official uttered a racial slur against him in Vancouver.

He said the ongoing investigation didn't affect his preparation for tonight's game.

"The other stuff is water under the bridge. I'm letting the front office handle it.

"I'm not worried about it anymore."

As of last night, the league had not ruled on the Stamps protest.
